A joint team of security forces is actively engaged in a search operation in a forested area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, to apprehend three terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), as reported by officials on Friday.
According to authorities, one JeM terrorist was killed during an encounter with security forces on Thursday, while three of his associates are believed to be hiding in the wilds of the Basantgarh belt.
The operation resumed this morning, bolstered by the use of drones and sniffer dogs, as efforts intensified to eliminate the remaining terrorists. Officials noted that this group of four terrorists had been under surveillance for over a year.
On Thursday morning, the joint search team of the army and police encountered the terrorists in the remote Bihali area of Basantgarh. The four terrorists were found hiding near Karur Nala, and the joint team, led by army para commandos, surrounded them, leading to the ensuing encounter.
One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Haider, who was known by the alias Maulvi and hailed from Pakistan.
Officials indicated that the terrorists were moving from one location to another using the forests and natural caves for concealment, aided by Over Ground Workers (OGWs). In recent months, five OGWs have been arrested in the area for allegedly providing food and shelter to the terrorists.
